Remembering a Murdered boy: Westley Thorin Keaton Roberts. Happy would-be 13th birthday 7:47pm (birth minute) | Welcome To Kiefair.com

I published this a few years ago. In a few days, he’d be 16, and with the death of a lover this spring I am more depressed than usual. When confronted with death, I often retreat… Especially if my body is failing as well (lack of Phoenix tears not helping) but I am trying not to complain

The Soul of the Godd(Esse)s

Y’all, this is not about pot, or politics. Unless you figure it that way. Hope you like it. It’s also from the El Paso County Jail. Copying from elsewhere seems always to do weird things to the formatting and i can’t seem to get the footnotes to work. If you want to dig in to that, you can get them here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y-4Trm1FZ1eCC5bbcijEBSniOU95SsMK_AWjti_Zu_M/edit?usp=sharing

Some points are best made acerbically.

I don’t know if this is one of them

But It Is Written

And there ya go.

So here ya go.

Friends, this is a thing about

Christianity.

And about God Gods and

Goddesses. I mean it in

Spirit and in Truth.

I consider that perhaps

“I am become Death,”

But Life as well.

Consider this and weep–

For Joy:

It’s All a                     Cry me a River

Metaphor                    and I’ll cry a River

for a Metaphor                                                 too.

for a Metaphor

for a Metaphor

For No Thing

Fear, that is reverence for God is that font from whence Wisdom derives. Or perhaps the threshold by which She enters one’s being. We know this cannot be “fear” as we imagine it such as anxiety over some worldly matter or a sudden shock to the system when some unexpected event takes place because “perfect love casteth out fear.” [1 Jn 4:18] In fact, we are…

  • Revere: to hold in great regard or religious respect
  • Reverence: veneration [L. venerari: worship]

counseled that we may be untroubled by “sudden fear” in Pr 3:25.

If God really is that angry, jealous, flaming Jonathan Edwards dykehead they warned me about at Agape Force, then to hell with him. Somewhere up in that collection of books and letters called “Bible” that Christians approach with such futility is the key to all this for me: “God is Love,” (“somewhere” being 1Jn 4:8, also). A very limited grasp of and tiny application of reason will show one that from this one can extrapolate: Love is God. I know so many more pagans that grasp this concept than Christians that it’s just stupid. Be that as it may, my vow is this: Whatever other gods may be running around loose in the world, the One that is Love is the One for me. If it turns out in the end that God is not Love, well then–fork God.

“[T]o love mercy and to walk humbly with my God[s]”
Note that in deference to weak spirits i have deleted the various “f-bombs” and such that ordinarily gild my work. Many of these lines are apt to be much funnier if you fill them in with your imagination. Or maybe not; this box may have fixed the troubling humor problem in spades.

Now, i don’t believe the darker potentiality here is true. My entire life has been flavored by a discomfort with Christianity, even when i embraced it in one of its most diseased and virulent forms, which trepidation has been based on a subthreshold sense of a paradox the Christians can’t seem to abandon.

I don’t mean to say that it’s impossible for Love to be angry, (which would render this piece a bit useless), but there exist many Christians–many–that are much like that angry bucker mentioned above. My dear friend Dave Reese, (whom i’ve not seen for some while, now…Hi, Dave!), once told me that he’d be happy to see a rigid theocracy in the United States, with pillories and stocks set up on the lawn at the Pioneer Museum, (housed in a severe old fortress-like invaders’ courthouse building in Colorado Springs, for you far-flung readers).

Now, Dave is not a raving lunatic or a constant irritant like many Christians. He’s a gentle, loving family man;  an actual pastor, and a thinking man influenced by crap in the Bible that seems to extol this sort of holy prickery as a virtue. Without even finding it necessary to dig around in “scripture” about the nature of God’s anger, i assert that the initial problem at hand is twofold. Christians in(forking)sist that the Bible is the Truth, the whole Truth, and Nothing but the Truth. Bull(shorts). Secondly, Reason, as we understand Her, effective and useful though She may be, is not any better at providing a complete vision of What There Is than the Bible, nor is the Universe subject to Her demands, (again, as we grok). It is impossible for the hare to catch the turtle, after all.

OK, before we continue, let us first establish from your own assertions, dear Christian, that for the sake of discussion here, a priori as you always in(forking)sist, the modern Bible really does represent the sacrosanct and perfect Word of God: A Logos in its own right–the God-breathed eternal and incorruptible Word, as it has been explained to me by intelligent members of your own cult: Jesus, Written. We can defer to the “Authorized” version in case you are one of those sticklers, since i prefer its poetry anyhow.

With that foundation established and held firmly in mind, observe the breakdown to follow where it is amply demonstrated that the Old Testament of the Bible teaches very clearly that some tightly held Christian doctrines of the faith are based on drastic misinterpretation.

Pr 1:20 Wisdom crieth without;

she uttereth her voice in the streets:

21 she crieth in the chief place of concourse,

in the openings of the gates….
And what pray tell, does She cry?

Pr 1:7  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge….
But,
1Jn 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Pr 1:21 [S]he crieth in the chief place of concourse,

in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity?

and the scorners delight in their scorning,

and fools hate knowledge?
1:23 Turn you at my [Wisdom’s] reproof:

behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you,

I will make known my words unto you.
Joel 2:27

And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.     28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh….
Confirmed in NT: Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh….

Pr 1:24 Because I have called, and ye refused;

I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
Jeremiah 35:17

therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel… “I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.”
Pr 2:6 For the Lord giveth wisdom:

out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

*Observe at this point that “Wisdom” here is personified as both female and powerful. She possesses attributes and claims prerogatives reserved for God elsewhere in the Bible. The entire collection of Proverbs 1 through 15 is a conversation with Wisdom, Knowledge, and Understanding, with appearances by Discretion, Prudence, and others. These are both mingled and separated at various points in the text. The above verse shows at least Knowledge and Understanding as coming from God’s [The LORD; Tetragrammaton] mouth. That is, these are aspects of the word of God; an expression or embodiment of Logos, or at least some sort of Sister to the Son.

Pr 2:10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul….
We see around and about that this is the behavior of the Holy Spirit, which is called the spirit of Christ, and of Christ, the Logos, as well. Pay attention, now:
Col 2:2 …that their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Romans 5:5

…and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

2 Corinthians 1:21-23

21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. [See also Pr 16:3].
Galatians 4:6

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Ephesians 3:17

[T]hat Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith that ye, being rooted and grounded in love….
Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom….
Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. [This is interesting--what is discernment, really,  but the exercise of wisdom through understanding?].

Pr 2:11 Discretion shall preserve thee….
Proverbs 4:6

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
Nehemiah 9:6

Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
Psalm 16:1

Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

Psalm 121:7

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
And later, in case there remains any uncertainty:
Pr 4:5-7

5 Get wisdom, get understanding:

forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee:

love her, and she shall keep thee.

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom:

and with all thy getting get understanding.
Pr 2:11

Understanding shall keep thee:
Exodus 23:20

Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way
Numbers 6:24

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
Isaiah 26:3

Thou [the LORD] wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
John 17:11

And now I [Jesus] am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

2 Timothy 1:14

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Proverbs 3:5

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;

and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Note that this does not in any wise suggest that one ought to abandon understanding, which as is on display here in previous proverbs is the Goddess, the Holy Spirit, Whom will enter any soul that reveres God.
To clarify:

Proverbs 16

16 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.

3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Proverbs 4 is so entirely loaded with the Goddesses Wisdom and Understanding, and the rewards of Her [their] pursuit that it verily stands alone in this deliberation. It seems the principal thing, though, is, well, the principal thing.
Pr 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
The attentive reader of scripture will no doubt wonder just how anything can be the principal thing, named with a feminine pronoun, other than the Goddess, both equal and One with any other aspect of Godhead. This entire chapter, with its promises of exaltation and crowns of grace and glory could well have fallen within the New Testament. If not for the Goddesses.

This is classic:
Pr 4:13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go:

keep her; for she is thy life.
Acts 17:28 …for in him [God] we live, and move, and have our being….

Pr 7:4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:

5 that they may keep thee….
This may be read in light of Ro 8:15:
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Pr 8 is intriguing because of the interaction of pronouns. Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, and Prudence are each named separately, yet referenced collectively by singular, feminine pronouns. 8:5 reads:
“O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart,” a bit of mingling that further shades the relationship between and among these decisively feminine personifications. Webster, in the cheezy, junior-high school dictionary they provide us at the El Paso County Jail, uses these various words to define each the other, with various shades between them. For example, “prudence” is the cautious application of wisdom and discretion with an eye toward future outcomes.
Perhaps even more telling for the purposes of this particular conversation is the bit between vv. 22 and 30:
22 The Lord possessed me [Wisdom] in the beginning of his way,

before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting,

from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth;

when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled,

before the hills was I brought forth:

26 while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields,

nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there:

when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 when he established the clouds above:

when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 when he gave to the sea his decree,

that the waters should not pass his commandment:

when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 then I was by him, as one brought up with him:

and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him….
Any honest Bible reader will no doubt recognize the similarities this passage bears with the first few chapters of John’s gospel when describing Jesus as Logos. This, one expects, will either tear the scales from his eyes, or cause his head to explode like Michael Ironside in Scanners is after him with a vengeance.

Pr 9:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom:

and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
And 10:13

In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found….
And so on and so on, to an extent that these appear overall to be inextricably linked, like twins, but remaining in some sense separate and not causative, either of the other, per se. That is, they are a package and neither is primary to the other, just like the so-called Trinity is described.

These passages are so loaded with the feminine aspects of Godhead, associated with traits that are quite specific to later proclamations concerning God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that this short treatment by no means exhausts all the ramifications that develop. I think it’s quite enough for this bit of palaver, though, don’t you? And i haven’t even mentioned Asherah, yet.

We see here that:

  1. There are Goddesses afoot.
  2. At least one of them is Jesus’s sister, or possibly Jesus h(er)imself, as though (s)he were a hermaphrodite or something.
  3. That Christianity, from its mainstream to its headwaters, (excepting rare Gnostic sects), and not just individual bungholes within Christendom, is fundamentally, doctrinally, institutionally wrong, wrong, freaking wrongity, wrong, wrong,  wrong,all the zippity-do-dah-day long.
  4. That almost very nearly all you Christians should repent immediately and start loving everyone, unconditionally, quickly, before the short time we have left runs out.

What all this does is to prove, define, refine, and clarify what I’ve been saying rather less succinctly for some time: That the Bible does not say what Christians say it says, at least not alone; that it is most assuredly not what y’all say it is; and that large swaths of your schtick is fracking evil. I have been nagged by doubts all the while–concerns about my own salvation, really. What if i favor these arguments and perspectives simply because i don’t like to follow the law? What if i’m serving my own flesh? Sometimes these concerns have tendrils of root meandering into truth, as well. But no! This revelation from God(dess)(es) clinches it all. I am not crazy; you are!

I am reborn yet again! Set free by Truth! A child of God for real, which God is no bolt-wielding funknode, but more a Father than i am to ;my own children, and a damn fine Mother, to boot. And more still; brother to my sister the Goddess whom i have always sought, though i knew it not. Abba, Father! Aima, Mother!

I don’t know what to make of this turn of events, exactly. I’m pretty sure, (but not sure at all), that the tide of Christendom will not shift at the word of a stoned house-painter, a repeated failure at business and marriage and the mechanics of living in general; in many eyes a flippiting criminal; but there it is. Come at me. My Siblings the Gods and Goddesses of the Ages, of all Creation and of Whatever There Is Above and Beyond, have my back all day, all night. Argue. Fight. Imprison. Kill. Fick it! You can’t win this; it’s not me.
On the other hand, you could abandon your miserable fight. Come on! Jump in! The Living Water is great!

Holmes Sweet Holmes

So we’ve all been very busy and i haven’t had much time for producing new stuff, lately. Hopefully that will change soon, but maybe not so much for a month or so. This is a short bit from just prior to the establishment of the Occupy encampment in Colorado Springs at which i was arrested for camping. The rest of that story is diffused throughout the stuff i’ve written over the past three years, and in various court docs. This is really just more context, and some history. Funny to note my anticipation of a big deal on Wall Street, which came before the Colorado Springs camp, or even the Boston or Oakland camps, for instance.

This is just a short one, but i’ll try and get another up before we’re out of town for a few weeks of community-building in far-flung states.

For NMania1: Thanks for the Voice

And for Bob Holmes: I love you Bob, I swear. But you deserve this.

Don’t feel too sad–I deserve much worse.

Way back in May of this year, I promised this to a guy who “sold” me a free newspaper in Denver for a $1 suggested donation. He said he was a writer for the same paper, which addresses issues surrounding homelessness in the same city. He was interested in the state of those affairs in Colorado Springs, where I live, and, given that I’ve been in the free food biz for 26 years, and that I have, in fact been homeless myself, I had to think I was in a unique position to afford some perspective. I also posted an, (untitled ), bit on the same topic clear back on 12 April of 2010, wherein I promised a follow-up. Things have worked around to a moment where changes have taken place in both the homeless community of our town and in my schedule that render ripe the moment. A year and a half ago, I described a little of the circus-like scene in our town surrounding the homeless campers. Here’ a bit more flesh, spiced with perhaps a bit more vinegar. Don’t get all touchy, now.

Colorado Springs has always been pretty friendly to street-runners, at least since 1984 when I got here. I got to know my way around when I hit town as a 20 year old apprentice electrician and found work for the–ahem–generous wage of  $6.00 an hour. Within a year, I had fallen in with some folks at Calvary Chapel downtown in the same building occupied by our town’s token “liberal” free paper now. We gave away sandwiches and such, among some other more ideologically driven activities. I’ve been in on this little pastime of mine in one capacity or another ever since, from various angles, and with variable motivation. (Spiritual vagaries aside, nothing is ever about just one thing). What I mean to point out is that I have been around long enough to have a little feel for the pulse of the thing, nothing more.

When I’d written about all this earlier in the orphaned posting noted above I mentioned some stuff I’ll not mention again, since you can go to that one to see, easily enough: http://hipgnosis21.blogspot.com/2010/04/so-colorado-springs-is-unusual-place-it.html . This follow up addresses the biggie. That’s right IT HASN’T WORKED.

I’m no prophet. God has yet to send me any memos. All I did earlier was interpret the writing on the wall that was there for anyone to see, in big scrawling, blocky letters. I think anyone looking could read them clearly enough, including Bob Holmes, if he hadn’t been in his customary, red-faced, squinty-eyed, self-imposed insensate condition. That doesn’t count for an honest mistake, Bob!

Now, here’s a little secret–sshhh! The camps are back. I can’t speak for the general level of brain power amongst drunken, whacked out homeless guys, but even the blankest screen among my favorite crowd has developed an ingrained self-preservatory wiliness. So you won’t see them sprawled along the highway like a middle class Somali neighborhood, like before. And I’m not gonna tell you where they are. The cops simply must know already, and my friends don’t need another three-ring fiasco. But, truckloads of enabling aside–I freakin’ told you, Bob!

I have an absolutely gigantic boatload of my own, patented bool-shyte to sling about all this, (imagine that), but here’s a little teaser before I have to go actually do something this morning. At this moment of extreme sensitivity to initial conditions, (watch Wall street, now, y’all), we really ought to notice the shit we’ve been up to all these, say 10,000 years, isn’t working. Let’s switch to a genuinely loving thing.

Buon compleanno ad una nuova Rivoluzione. Viva l’Esercito dell’Amore!

For Bruce McCluggage

Had some words with my friend Bruce yesterday–OK, lots of words. In fact, the Spirit moved me, so I was blasting words all over the place like that guy from the X Men, only with a gag instead of a visor. All the way toward the end of much conversatin’–and yes, Bruce held his end respectably in the face of my torrent–we came to a summation.

The idea is already on the pages here so it’s important and needing some flesh, but it’s also very simple. We all know we can’t prove a negative. Any third grade philosopher know this as an unshakable verity, right? So who will step up to prove that? No one, that’s who–we can’t do it, and mind you, I don’t hearsee that term coming from myself often. I’ll beat my kids senseless if I hear them using it. (Hi kids! Molto amore!). Hell the notion is generational. My totally outstanding 95 year old Granddad banned the word from his brood’s vocabulary, and he started his family during the Great Depression. But we can’t, and we know we can’t.

We can’t even prove that we can’t prove that we can’t prove a negative. We can add layers to our investigation to Eternity, and never can we prove a negative. And yet we know that we know that we know (&c.) that we can’t do it. What the Heellll!!? This is why: Reason breaks down at a point between proving and knowing right here for us to examine like a fascinating diamond, cut in some diabolically ingenious fashion to as to hide its facets from us like a tesseract or something. There’s math that explains this pretty succinctly. Look up Kurt Gödel‘s Incompleteness Theorem, (here’s a good start http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/goedel/). Gödel, [whose name I'll be disrespecting til I figure out how to add an umlaut on this thing, (HA!)], wrote a bunch of High Math, way beyond my capacity, that shows us when reduced to terms even I can grok, that any closed system can never possibly contain all the tools necessary to fully describe itself. With me so far?

This shows us another Eternal Verity: Truth transcends Proof; and further–our ability to know does the same. Now, Bruce is a philosopher, and kind of a Christian, so this sort of shit doesn’t bother him like it may the Scientific Determinists that read this. What we are gazing upon, through the lens of our little diamond, is an example of our ability to “jump out of the system”, and view it from outside, in some manner as indescribable as how we can know there’s no proving a negative. (Apologies to Doug Hofstadter for abusing an idea I came across in Gödel, Escher, Bach. I’m about to depart from his comfort zone, I think. He did, give him mucho credit, respectably describe the idea within the closed system of those pages). This is an ability we share with God. This, I think, is at least in part why some tidbit of western scripture says, “Ye are gods,” (Psalm 82, for you skeptics; read it all and get some context before attempting to argue, please).

This whole line of thought is closely associated with the Ontological Argument as proof of God, if not fully dependent upon it, (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/ontological-arguments/). For the uninitiated, this is a supremely brilliant bit of philosophical tomfoolery that attempts to prove the existence of God by reason alone, in an orderly procession of thought utterly divorced from empirical evidence. If anyone would care to take it on, I’d love–no LOVE–to see a genuine debunking. It’s very slippery indeed, and feels for all the world like a stage magician pulling infinite decks of cards from his sleeves. But it’s irrefutable, in my stupid little mind. It jumps the system.

I’ll readdress the crap we’ve mulled over here, but this is good. Put simply–arithmetically, one might say–1) We can’t prove a negative; 2) We know this; 3) Truth is superior to proof; 4) We are therefore superior to the closed system of All-There-Is;5) Only god is thus; 6) We are gods. (Yes, I took a leap there at step 6. I only have so much attention span. Roll wit’ it for now, OK? It’s in the Ontological Argument if you feel like getting ahead of me). This is arithmetical, yes, and handily sums up my points from yesterday, Bruce and friends. But, as you’ve seen by now I guess, that doesn’t mean one can’t do a bit of Algebra, Trig, or (Meta)Physics with it.

***

Jeez, I hope you all enjoyed that. Please don’t burn me at the stake yet. There’s more. It’ll take a while to work around the mess of toroidal thinking here. See Bruce–I didn’t forget that part. I’m only human, even if we are all gods. Bear in mind all, that Nothing here is any more valuable than the opinion of one idiot house painter. And any of you who have read the stuff before this will know already: It’s all a bunch of bullshit.

I began publicizing this contest when I got word that the magazines had been shipped from Canada to the distributors in the USA  around July 18th. Readers Rushed to the racks only to find them strangely void of skunk magazine. Again and again from different parts of the country it was the same story… either the store carried the magazine but only had the best of volume 9 or the store didn’t seem to know what magazine the customer was speaking about. Here is an example and some answers from Pebbles Trippet of Skunk Magazine

https://www.facebook.com/breezy.kiefair/posts/843683855651625:5

I have not had any entries yet from any location to win the 16×20 poster (first prize) or the 8×10 (second prize) in my contest WIN a 16x 20 Poster or 8×10 print of the Skunk Mag Maya Angelou image. My portrait of Maya Angelou appears in an article by Pebbles Trippet in SKUNK Magazine volume 10 issue 1 (page 24)

People seem to be having trouble finding the magazine… so everyone has an equal chance of winning the prints.

  • Nina Cooper Emerson Not at my local 7-11….I’m still looking!
  • Breezy Kiefair That’s what I’m hearing again and again. Its real sad these retail outlets make deals with magazine companies and do not make the magazines themselves available to customers. I guess we as customers just need to keep bugging them…. maybe we need to start writing barnes and noble and 7/11’s customer service emails???
  • Nina Cooper Emerson The guy I asked said..”They just bring them when they bring them.” I wonder who distributes for 7-11….hmmm.
  • Pebbles Trippet That is a good question. And there’s a distinction between franchise and non-franchise. Please find out what you can so we can make Skunk more available in this country..
  • Pebbles Trippet We have permission from Skunk editor, John Vergados, to make the entire Maya Angelou Tribute, artwork and cover available for reading the text. Open the floodgates, Breezy.
  • Nina Cooper Emerson The weekly magazines are up front….the guy said that every 7-11 gets them on different days…like one will get on a Tues….another on Wed…etc. But for the monthly/quarterly magazines, it isn’t as clear as to when they come. He didn’t know much more than that… I’ll try to get to Barnes and Noble this weekend.
    • Part of the problem is inherent in distribution of a Canadian marijuana magazine in the US where you don’t know the community terrain–such as head shops & hemp stores with literature sections, used bookstores and local liquor stores. So Skunk Mag found an avenue thru Barnes&Noble Books, a national chain, and certain 7/11 markets and local liquor stores that already carry High Times, tatoo & porn mags. Marijuana prohibition plays a part in this lack of access, which is exactly what it’s supposed to do. What about dispensaries? Some are turned off by anything that is not essentially medical in nature (O’Shaughnessy’s is ok because it is based in high-powered cannabinoid science but Skunk is not, because it is broadly speaking cultural in nature with too much skin on display.) Some of the more broadminded dispensaries concerned about their customers’ broader education eagerly stock Skunk Mag, back issues and all. But someone has to be on the lookout & ask someone in charge at these dispensaries if they will carry a high-powered monthly magazine to sell to their patients. It’s about educating those who appreciate intelligent irreverent views, how-to all-organic grow tips from the rev and in depth interviews of go-to women in the international cannabis community. Carry an issue or two with you when you visit these dispensaries and let me know which ones would like to give it a try. Here’s an example – A Mendocino County dispensary takes up an entire row of glass space with a spectrum of back Skunks, each one available for sale. Sugaree came up in conversation and they instantly went to the Oct 2013 back issue for the winner pictured there.

    • Breezy Kiefair I understand pebbles… what I don’t understand is why it took so long to hit outlets like 7/11 (still need to do my due diligence on the local barnes and noble) in a state where its logical more copies could and would be sold. It seems like a poor decision on the part of 7/11 / barnes and nobles. I could see not shipping to areas that they just WON’T sell but in weed states…. its different.

    • Pebbles Trippet I agree, certainly in CO. It shows how literature, as opposed to product, has taken a back seat in our consciousness across the board in the prohibition scheme. Knowledge has largely been passed underground and publications are hailed if they survive aSee More
    • Breezy Kiefair perhaps this is a good topic to bring to the skunk higher ups. they need to at least be aware of the issue and working the problem…. what the solution is yet, even i dont see clearly right now, but wheels in my head are turning and the more heads working the problem the better.
      13 hrs · Like · 1
    • Breezy Kiefair i will follow up with a local barnes and noble, more 7/11s, tattered cover… i already talked you up in mile high pipe and tobacco… i usually only buy meds once a month but am looking for a new dispensary close to the new house so will talk skunk up along the way
Pebbles Trippet I told management how unavailable it is in the bustling Bay Area; they were surprised to hear it. That suggests they rely on local distributors. The question is who covers Denver and environs? The plight of print media has forced B&N out of the cities into the suburbs where it is easy to marginalize an already marginalized subject. In both the El Cerrito and Emeryville B&Ns, they had run out early in the month. I left my number, asked the supe to raise the monthly order and to start paying attention to something worthwhile. (ha) Perhaps we need to compile a local list of dispensaries and small businesses interested in adding Skunk Mag to their monthly inventory; then find local existing distributors who want to enhance their repertoire. “If they’re irresponsible we can do better”, we might say. But we do need to know who already exists. Who distributes to Tattered Cover Books? Probably not the same person as distributes to 7/11… Whoever that distributor is may want to step up & carry bulk orders of Skunk at our suggestion, especially if it’s a list we create and vouch for. People don’t know who to trust so they abstain. Here, we’re fulfilling the wish of the voters who approved the importance of access to cannabis which includes credible reliable information. 3D could top that list ordering a year’s worth of monthly Skunk bundles. Her previous free bundle was one time only in appreciation for the interview. The current v10#1 bundle was sent gratis to you, Breezy, %3D one time only for your Angelou artwork, poetry and synthesis. Now we start a new stage, stepping up cannabis consciousness with an improved distribution network of trustworthy outlets where Skunk Mag will be available with cannabis literature unread elsewhere — from Tokin’ Female activists, writers & artists, scientists in organic growing, lawyers who care, editors and publishers who make it happen. And of course the cannakids, who are raising our community in the ways of compassion.

 MORE ON ACCESS ISSUES STRAIGHT FROM PEBBLES TRIPPET

   On the distribution issue, our grassroots insistence that all these various outlets carry marijuana publications that speak for the broader community is critical — headshops, dispensaries, used bookstores, community centers, liquor stores, barnes & noble — all these places we frequent should be asked to carry Skunk Mag, because it represents the interests of a budding marijuana community that can no longer be denied. Everyone in their area needs to reach out on this one, let me know which outlets we can add. If there’s no distribution person in the area, the bundles go out from Montreal direct to the outlet.

Skunk Magazine’s purpose is to represent the interests of the broader marijuana community: intellectuals, artists, writers, home cultivators, patients, feminists, cannafamilies, ill children — the cannabis family worldwide. This month’s issue of Tokin’ Female is a tribute to the phenomenal life of Maya Angelou, featuring Breezy Kiefair’s synthesis of art and poetry and Tokin Woman’s My, Oh Maya on Angelou’s marijuana roots. Skunk Mag has provided space and respect.

Willie and Waylon and Some Other Guy: A story about weed, marriage, and Texas tall tales.

Part I

I like telling the story of the time we went to Telluride with my brother David to catch the Bluegrass Festival there. Dave is a pretty dang famous fiddler, and this happened 13 or 14 years ago when his Freight Hoppers were riding a crest, having two then current Billboard Top 10 Americana list releases on Rounder, (Rounder is pretty much a ripoff for them, but that’s for another time).  The Freight Hoppers were hot in Colorado, and their set would draw some 30, 000 festival-goers, with a respectable bevy of hairy Deadheads looking for an outlet following Jerry’s departure bouncing , flouncing and working their little Tai Chi dance up at the stage. Lots of really notable musicians liked The Hoppers, too, and still do, actually.

Anyhow, we would meet up with Dave and the band at the festivals after winding through a long cattle-line setup, to get to the will-call desk and pick up our magic-rainbow all-access wristbands and hang out all weekend with all these niche-famous musicians, eating, drinking, being merry, smoking, and playing music together. That shit is great!

So one day we’re back stage chillin’ with Tony Furtado, (hi Tony—rock on!), and someone goes, “Is that Johnny Cash?” and sure enough, The Highwaymen had showed up to play an unscheduled set. We never made it away from whatever we were doing at the time to see them play, but not long later, as if they had come for no other purpose, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson show up looking for my brother to tell him how much they dig his music. How cool is that!? Well, we all got to jawin’, and knowing a little about Willie I pulled a little fairly decent weed out of my pocket  and offered it, but Willie said, “Oh, no thanks, son, put that away,” and busted out some G13 mutant weed or something, and sparked the stoniest joint I’ve ever smoked in my life, to this very day. What a day!

Now, Willie has always been a hero of mine. His heroes have always been cowboys, he says; mine have always been outlaws, and I always figured Willie for a true outlaw, to the core. I mean the guy runs for president on a platform built of pot smoke, with Ani DiFranco as his running mate. Go Willie! That’s why some things he’s said lately trouble me. I’ll get to that in a minute but the first order of business here is to retell that story one more time, (not that I won’t tell it again—it’s a great staple of mine at parties and such), and to let you in on a secret: It’s all bullshit! It never happened!

***

I am a teller of tall tales, a spinner of yarns, a slinger of bool-shyte. That’s what I do. I’m gonna do some now, here; it’s my schtick, and folks who know me will instantly recognize some of the regular phraseology of my everyday standup, right here on the page. Hi Tim! Hi kids! Hi Willie! Some will recognize little inside tidbits and feel special. They’ll pick out my little eddies and anticipate how I circle back around myself. Hell, if you’re reading you might just as well go ahead and start feeling all conspiratorial and special right now. I mean, this is certainly not USA Today. You can pretty much count on being in an exclusive number by this count.

So if this is a bit of improv by a bullshit artist, how do you know this isn’t all bullshit right now? I’ll let you in on another secret: it is! That’s right—it’s the Lying Cretin. Everything I say is a lie. The Lie is truer than the Truth. Willie and I will be burning one in Austin when I make it down that way in a few months and we’ll laaaugh and laugh about this whole thing, because he gets it, you know:

               This statement does not belong in the set of all true statements.

Wrap your head around that a spell. It can’t be done. And no side-winding tap-dance involving imaginary words like”pseudo-statement” allowed, either. This is True Lies. It’s a breakdown in reason, a blind spot in our panoramic window to Reality like that thing with the dots you learned in elementary school. You can not manipulate the notions here to fit your mind, though you may, just maybe, be able to manipulate your mind to fit the notions. OK, so I’ll admit we can’t prove the magick here, and maybe someday some mathematician will build a technical ladder up and out of Gödel’s pit, but, we can’t prove a negative, right? But let’s see ya prove that. And now follow it back to the beginning of this paragraph, the beginning of this rant, the beginning of everything you’ve ever read, heard, saw, sensed felt.

And, lo and behold, you find yourself “poised on the wave of explicit Presence, the clockless Nowever.”

But don’t forget what kinda bullshit you’re reading.

(Don’t miss Part 2)!

I have not done a dispensary review in nearly a year, and I have never reviewed a recreational dispensary before. Now, I could have called ahead and had them prepare me a hand picked review sample, but to me, that’s just not a fair way to review. I’d rather walk in unannounced on a holiday weekend. If there are any problems with herb or with staff, they will be apparent under the higher stresss and potentially higher customer volume of the weekend. The point being, I want to make sure I’m pretty much treated exactly like everyone else. I also like to review when I know the boss is likely away doing other things as this can also be a factor in bud and budtend quality. Broken Back Blues: Hope and a call for prayer for Gramma Maggic 420

Broken Back Blues: a call for prayer for Gramma Maggic 420

By:

Gramma Maggic 420

A frequent guest writer for Kiefair.com recently fell off a tall ladder and broke her back. What follows are her posts in chronological order. There is an amazing tale of cannabis and its effectiveness for pain here.

it is an amazing testimony to the power of prayer and the plant when you read it from beginning to end… I’ve taken Gramma Maggic 420’s facebook posts in the reverse chronological order and put them in chronological order from the time Maggie fell.

~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE~~~~~~~~~
Since my hospital discharge (and to the surprise and amazement of several specialists yesterday); I have not only kept the pain associated with the break in my back under control, but have done so with no pharmacological intervention.
Unfortunately, my only medication is not free. I have not had a personal harvest since last October, my husband has been longer. We are both on disability.
We have been donated a wonderful amount of coconut oil that is holding, but our supply of flower is exhausted.
If anyone in the area can help, it will be repayed in kind.
Please contact Keith or myself. Thanks in advance!!!
I took a bad fall from the attic onto my back . I am in bad pain waiting on the ct scan on my lower back. — with Keith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Finally got ct results back. NO SPINAL OR BONE INJURIES after falling 10 feet off of a ladder.
Thank you all for your prayers. I thank Heavenly Father for keeping me safe in His care.
Spams in my back are still level 9.5….and I could really use some 420…but I WILL HEAL
Okay….the worst part about being in the hospital after the fall actually isn’t the pain anymore.
It is being a newlywed and being away from my hubby all night for the first time since our wedding.
Miss you, Keith!
Back is getting somewhat better….able to walk to bathroom with walker and help with only a 8.5 increase in pain instead of a 10!
Hopeful that means after a bit more rest that I can go home! (Staying downstairs for a bit….just sayin!
I pray for everyone to invite Jesus Christ and His Love and Lighte into their lives….He sure saved my life today! — feeling lonely with Maggie Floyd andKeith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
they are keeping her in the hospital overnight… sounds pretty serious to me.someone else was willing to speak up for me just yesterday and i had my needs filled. the least i can do is ask for someone else in as great or greater need than my own.
I am blessed to have so many people to call “friends”….what I also call my Intentional Family.May the Love and Lighte of Christ surround you all! My dear hubby is here helping care for me now. The best nurse a girl could ask for! (And he smells much better too!  ) — feeling apologetic with Margaret Ellen Floyd and Keith A. Floyd.
Not sure how long they plan to keep me here. Last night was rough, waiting nervously for PT today.Bad pain episode when I tried to eat….or reach for food, I should say. Lead to a nasty mood and a personality issue with my nurse didn’t help.
Thanks to everyone for your prayers, Heavenly Father is definitely watching out for me.
I pray that the Love and Lighte of Christ surrounds all today! — feeling nervous
PT just left.
Sounds like they’re keeping me until tomorrow.
Then home with a walker and lots of instructions & cautions.
 — feeling painedat Providence Centralia Hospital.
Physical Therapy just left.
Decision that I am not ready for home, nor is my current home ready for me.
Will be using a walker, it seems, when I am discharged.
Hubby went home to check on Athena.
It’s a long walk from the hospital to home….but he keeps doing it.
Very thankful right now for a lot…. especially my hubby!
May the love and Lighte of Christ surround you all! — feeling tired with Maggie Floyd and 2 others at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Still in the hospital.
Hubby left for home.
He is looking for a walker….apparently my grandma had a new one before she passed.
That will be interesting emotionally. I miss my grandma.
Pain level still intolerable, but I have refused opium’s derivatives since morning.Mood and physical pain were combining to make me unbearably frustrated and angry.Not sending me home until I can ambulate using a walker the distance to the bathroom at home….Still haven’t made it 1/4 way.Thank you all for your prayers. Without them, and my Heavenly Father welcomed into my life, I don’t doubt this would be much worse. — feeling lonely with Keith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Still in this silly hospital.
Perks: fluffy adjustable bed, fresh fruit & fruit juices
And bacon.Emjoying my bacon and nomming on grapes….fresh fruit and fruit juices and bacon and I didn’t have to cook it or prepare them.Even in pain (finally down to an 8.5 after my first flexaril of the day), I will look for the silver lining!Looking forward to some true medicine when I get home so I can begin to heal.May the love and Lighte of Christ surround all today!#CannabisCures #bacon #HospitalPerks — feeling determined at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Hubby finally made it here just as the PT was starting.Better than yesterday, was my little walker-walk….more PT this afternoon and hopefully we can get this pain controlled enough for me to go home soon.Still refusing opioid (doc is sure pushy with them) pain control. I know what will work, I just need to get some.Looking forward to next week & payday. Green healing is much better than this medical paradigm. Need to make a bit of the cure & get this dang back pain under control. — with Margaret Ellen Floyd and Keith A. Floyd.
Margaret Ellen Floyd
Called to order lunch, asked if they could toss a whole bunch of fruit and vegis in a blender & make me a smoothie…and they agreed!Being in the hospital is bad enough….but I fell on Tuesday before I put my teeth in. Trying to eat without teeth has been a challenge.At least I am finally with-it enough to ask them to blend my food up.
Maybe now, I won’t be so challenged with digestive issues & belly pain.I hope everyone’s day is full of the love and lighte of Christ.
I also hope I can start focusing on things not about my body soon. — feelingbored with Maggie Floyd and Keith A. Floyd.
Hubby here, and done with second PT session of the day.Physical Torture is so fun….lol….not. This whole learning to walk thing kinda sucks….and is intensely painful.But I have a lot more sympathy for my hubby and everyone else who has sustained major back injuries. Keith included. — feeling exhausted.
A few Sisters stopped by! Thank you so much for the card and the visit, it kept my mind from becoming too stir crazy. — with Maggie Floyd and 2 others.
Just got the word: One more day in here to finish learning how to drive a walker & get to the bathroom by myself.I will be happy to go home tomorrow….and start really healing.Praying for the love & Lighte of Christ to surround all! — feeling determined withMargaret Ellen Floyd and Keith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Just got done with morning PT and the therapist was very happy with me!
Climbed up the step (with walker) and down 3 times!!!
I should be going home today!The Priesthood power of Jesus Christ has healed me….I just gotta relearn how to walk! May the love and lighte of our Lord, Jesus Christ, surround everyone today!!! — feeling grateful with Maggie Floyd and Keith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Good morning Fb’ers and fellow farmers. It’s been a little rough this morning. Out of meds and been working in the garden, I had to raise the lights and it’ll be watering time this evening  Say a prayer my wife gets to come home today!!! Happy FARMING! — feeling hopeful with Maggie Floyd in Centralia, WA.
  1. Bored, hurting and really wishing I had some 420. Conventional meds suck.Hopefully today I can get out of here….after physical torture clears me for driving a walker to the bathroom.All of those simple things just became a whole heck of a lot more difficult.LOTS of fun….guess I’ll watch a little Netflix on my phone while I pray for another short nap.Hoping the Love & Lighte of Christ surrounds all this morning. — with Keith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Third night in this silly hospital.Really missing my hubby. Not cool to happen to newlyweds….but oh well. I guess I will be more careful when I climb from now on.
No more slick shoes. Had hubby throw out the ones I was wearing when it happened.Still waiting for my g’night call Saying my prayers & heading to nap…. — feeling lonely with Maggie Floyd andKeith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
Hoping this will in fact be my last night in this place….but I taught nutrition staff how to make a fruit & vegi smoothie….and I am trying to teach the rest of the staff narcotics are not necessary for pain control.Means being one tough ol lady….but with the Power of Christ’s divine Love and Lighte; I can do anything He wants me to do!Praying His Love and Lighte surrounds all of you too!!! — feeling hopeful withMargaret Ellen Floyd and Keith A. I do know I am blessed, but right now the level 9 pain is blinding my gratefulness with:
medicare may pay for a walker but the only place that bills medicare in Lewis Co demands CASH UPFRONT.
Begged to borrow cash for dry meds from a relative, but dry meds make me cough (don’t have a vape or bubbler anymore).
No medibles, tincture or cure oil.
Pain is 9, worse when try to run a marathon to get to the bathroom from my bed without a walker they trained me to use.
Husband found the walker my dead grandma used 21 years ago; no wheels, so almost worse than having nothing.
Yes I am grateful I am alive and not paralyzed, but sometimes I just want to escape this pain hell.
Needs some help in Centralia. Poor hubby is so overwhelmed.
I can’t sit to drive, can’t stand to fix food & can’t walk because no pharmacy down in Lewis Co will fill the Rx for the wheeled walker I learned to drive at the hospital without cash upfront even though Medicare will pay for the walker.
Getting from the bed to the bathroom is excruciating without wheels on a walker. Anyone who might have a solution, please contact Keith or me.I pray everyone’s day is full of the love & Lighte of Christ. — feeling exhausted
A big shout out and thank you to Breezy Kiefair and Mxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxxxx & Keith for conspiring to find a way to get me a care package.I am truly blessed, and also thanks to Renae who also tried to assist with the sit.The biggest thanks goes to my Heavenly Father for making sure I have so many wonderful friends (& hubby) who want me to heal asap. — feeling blessed.
    Feeling blessed to be alive & not paralyzed this Sabbath, but still a bit sad I cannot sit yet.
    No driving or church since sitting is still unwise. Walking to the bathroom is almost a task I can do on my own.
    I know I will recover completely.
    I know I have been healed.
    I know that my Healer & Redeemer lives. His name is Jesus Christ.
    It is Him that I devote my day, today, to. I am so grateful for my life & my mobility, as painful as it is.
    …and I’m back in the hospital.Lots of fun. More pain than fun.
    Seems that things aren’t working like they should. More tests. — feeling exhausted with Margaret Ellen Floyd and Keith A. Floyd at Providence Centralia Hospital.
    Ct results are back: not keeping me, but fitting a brace for my back (it seems a compression fracture was missed during earlier tests), giving me meds for my digestion….and contacting UW about the lack of sensation issues.Not the best news, but certainly not the worse.Heavenly Father is continuing to watch out for me, I thank everyone for their prayers. — feeling blessed with Maggie Floyd and Keith A.     Update for those interested….for friends of my hubby, Keith, too!
    Thanks everyone for your prayers!
    Margaret Ellen Floyd feeling tired
    So…..we are finally back home after another adventure at Centralia Providence Hospital….wowsa.
    So, after my evaluation & all tests were performed, they discovered that they had missed a compression fracture of my T-11 vertebrae.
    So, yes, I did break my back.
    The great news is it should heal completely.
    The not-so-fun news: 3 months (in the Summer :/) in a back brace. An appointment with a neurosurgeon at Swedish is Seattle & Urologist at UW. In addition of course to setting up appointments with physical therapy & going to my regular doc to follow up.
    Looks like my summer will be quite busy.
    Also looks like we are in Washington for the Summer. Sorry to our friends in AZ, but I will not be cleared to drive that distance for some time
    I am very grateful to my Eternal Heavenly Father for making certain we followed up on what could have seemed like a trivial complaint.
    I am so eternally grateful to God that I was protected from further injuring my back before the break was discovered.
    I am thankful I have full use of my legs and feet. I am very grateful I will heal completely.
    I pray that the love & lighte of my Lord Jesus Christ surrounds all tonight!
    Just beginning to process the entire idea that my back is broken, and all of the medical-type intervention I have had with my body in the past week, and I will have in the next 3 months.For the first time ever, I have a partner by my side. One who has actually rehabilitated himself from 4 back surgeries.This is an opportunity for me, many of them. I will be documenting my rehabilitation. I will not give up this time. I know what it is like to succumb to the loss of my mobility, I did it in 2002. I was without my mobility, for the most part, until 2009. I had some good days, but not a lot.This time I have denied all pharmaceutical medications since my discharge from the hospital on Friday. I have had no opioids (against medical advice) since 24 hours after the fall. Once I was semi-cognizant, I said “no.”My pain has been in control (painful, but in control), since Saturday, when I was able to get some edible cannabis on board. (BIG thanks again to Breezy, Mxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxxxx &Keith for all that cross-country conversating that lead to me being able to finally find my head!).I thank all my friends & family for the prayers & thoughts as I was going through this scary situation.I thank my husband, Keith, for being the most amazing partner & friend during one of the biggest challenges I could imagine our young marriage experiencing. You are unbelievable and I couldn’t love you more!I am most grateful to my Lord & my Heavenly Father for keeping me safe & giving me the knowledge and ability to fully heal from this accident. I fell 10 feet. I still am doing amazingly well.I pray everyone has a week full of Christ’s Love & Lighte. — feeling blessed
    RIP Maya Angelou honoring her cannabis connections
    SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 2014
    My, Oh Maya
    Revered author Maya Angelou, who was the first poet since Robert Frost to read a poem at a Presidential inauguration, writes about her experiences with marijuana in Gather Together, the second installment of her autobiography after the acclaimedI Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.  Angelou, who started life as Rita Johnson from Stamps, Arkansas, was raped at the age of 7, and had an illegitimate child in her teens. Working as a waitress to support her son in San Diego, 18-year-old Rita met two lesbian prostitutes who frequented the bar where she worked. One night, the women invited her to their house for dinner. Angelou recounts: “Let’s have a little grifa before dinner.” Johnnie Mae gave an order, not an invitation. She turned to me.  “You like grifa?” “Yes. I smoke.” The truth was I had smoked cigarettes for over a year, but never marijuana….I was prepared to refuse anything else they offered me, so I didn’t feel I could very well refuse the pot…. I inhaled the smoke as casually as if the small brown cigarette I held were the conventional commercial kind. “No. No. Don’t waste the grifa. Hand it here….try it like this…” I opened my throat and kept my tongue flat so that the smoke found no obstacle in its passage from my lips to my throat…. The food was the best I’d ever tasted. Every morsel was an experience of sheer delight. I lost myself in a haze of sensual pleasure, enjoying not only the tastes but the feel of the food in my mouth, the smells, and the sound of my jaws chewing.  “She’s got a buzz. That’s her third helping.”  …I decided to dance for my hostesses. The music dipped and swayed, pulling and pushing. I let my body rest on the sound and turned and bowed in the tiny room. The shapes and forms melted until I felt I was in a charcoal sketch, or a sepia watercolor. (pp. 52-55) By the end of the evening Rita had arranged to rent the women’s house, putting them to work for her as prostitutes, with her barganing for their services with cab drivers and taking a cut. Meanwhile, she read Dostoevsky and studied dance. Soon the arrangement turned sour and she had to flee back to Stamps, where drinking Sloe gin “numbed my brain” and she had to make herself sick to get rid of the poison.
    Rita went back to the West Coast and tried joining the Army in San Francisco, but was turned down because the The California Labor school, where she’d studied dance and drama, was deemed a Communist organization. So she started waitressing again, and smoking pot. Smoking grass eased the strain for me. I made a connection at a restaurant nearby. People called it Mary Jane, hash, grass, gauge, weed, pot, and I had absolutely no fear of using it. In the black ghetto of the forties, marijuana, cocaine, hop (opium) and heroin were only a little harder to obtain than rationed whiskey. Although my mother didn’t use anything but Scotch (Black & White), she often sang a song popular in the thirties that at its worst didn’t condemn grass, and at its best extolled its virtues. “Dream about a reefer five foot long Vitamin [sic] but not too strong You’ll be high but not for long If you’re a viper…” From a natural stiffness I melted into a grinning tolerance. Walking on the streets became high adventure, eating my mother’s huge dinners an opulent entertainment, and playing with my son was side-cracking hilarity. For the first time, life amused me. … I disciplined myself. One joint on Sunday and one on the morning of my day off. The weed always had an intense and immediate effect. Before the cigarette was smoked down to roach length, I had to smother my giggles. Just to see the falling folds of the curtains or the sway of a chair was enough to bring me to audible laughter. After an hour the hysteria of the high would abate and I could trust myself in public. (p. 154).  After a brief stint dancing professionally, she met a married man who told her her, “It’s gauge that’s breaking my marriage….My silly dilly wife stopped letting me have any and she goes around laughing and giggling all the time.” She flushed her pot for him and soon let him lead her into prostitution herself, where she was told if she was good she’d be given some “white girl” (cocaine) but, “They won’t let you smoke hemp, though. They say it makes a ‘ho too frisky. ‘Hos get their heads bad and forget about tending to business.” At the close of the book, another man named Troubador shows her how he shot heroin, and makes her promise to keep her innocence. He gives her his clothes to sell so that she can escape and head back to her Mother’s house. In the following autobiographical installment, Singin’ and Swingin’ and Gettin’ Merry Like Christmas, Rita is discovered while dancing at a strip club in San Francisco and develops a Calypso singing act, changing her name and eventually finding her way to activism with Martin Luther King andMalcolm X, as well as writing with the encouragement of James Baldwin and others. Angelou received over 50 honorary degrees and three Grammys. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Arts in 2000 and the Lincoln Medal in 2008. PS: Angelou isn’t the only revered US poet to sing the praises of pot. In his book of Haiku She Was Just 17, former poet laureate (2001-2003) Billy Collins wrote: So many nicknames for you  But none as lovely as  marijuana
    Set Up and Opening day of the LaMay CANNABIS MUSEUM™ OF COLORADO Behind the scenes
    April 18, 2014
    It  Was a warm an humid Friday, the topic on everyone’s lips? What are you doing for this year’s 4/20 celebration? I was single minded in my concerns… I had a painting to drop off. Let us back up 6 weeks time. Michelle LaMay announced she would be opening Colorado’s first cannabis History Museum. She got with me (Breezy Kiefair) and asked if I would be interested in donating a painting to the museum. I was informed that my first book, Of Poetry, Pain, and Pot was already to be included among the museum’s exhibits and gift store offerings. I eagerly agreed and allowed Michelle to choose one of my images. I then had the image printed onto canvas and set about touching up that canvas with my own hand and brushes. I had worked many hours a day for many weeks and finally the beauty in my mind had begun to shine through. I called the piece complete and April 18 was the day to hang the canvas in the museum. It was opening day for the museum, so I was kind of expecting everything to be set up and ready to go, but when Michelle opened the trailer, and said, “Help me” there was no considering refusing.  You see, an international film crew was on the way and would arrive within 2 hours time. The museum had not yet had the exhibits set up and there was a ton of work. Michelle had shown up with two willing gentlemen (Charlie Washington and Rick Wainwright) but an extra set of hands were both willing and necessary. The 4 of us were as industrious as bees. We did pause for the occasional bowl, but by the time the film crew showed up, nearly everything was picture perfect. It was heartwarming to see a group of individuals coming together to complete a task. Each of us had our own strengths and infirmities, but together we were whole and up to the task. The activity and the honor of having my painting shown was more than enough excitement for me for 4/20 this year.
    You may click on any of the below images to begin a slideshow of the day in pictures.
    A pop-up cannabis museum on wheels? Only in Colorado
    reprinted from: http://www.thecannabist.co/2014/04/16/pop-up-cannabis-museum-wheels-denver-colorado/9662/
    A mobile cannabis museum — packed into a crowded fifth-wheel with artifacts, interactive displays, photos and media archives on the history of marijuana — that announces its pop-up locations via social media?
    Only in Colorado.
    “I intend to travel all around the state educating Coloradans about the history of hemp and cannabis,” said Michelle LaMay, the 67-year-old activist behind LaMay’s Cannabis Museum, which opens 4/20 weekend. “I’m parking this weekend in Aurora, and I’ll be posting my location like food trucks do.”
    LaMay isn’t lacking passion. As you tour her museum on wheels, she’ll giddily teach you about the state’s laws for carrying, ingesting and growing marijuana — not to mention her own activist roots dating back to 1992 in Mesa County, where she helped collect 5,000 signatures in an attempt to legalize hemp.
    Her museum won’t have regular hours or a steady location even, but she’ll announce her hours and location via social media and website. Admission to the museum is free.
    “I’ll be at people’s parties and in dispensary parking lots,” LaMay said. “I’ve been booked for those occasions, and I’ll also be at the Pot Pavilion at the Denver County Fair, which I’m very excited about.”
    As with LaMay’s five-year-old Cannabis University of Colorado, the museum’s primary goal is education.
    “More education about hemp and cannabis can only help raise awareness and acceptance for cannabis and hemp — not just the products but we users also,” LaMay said. “I’m a 67-year-old, and just my mere presence lends credibility to the cause, I’ve been told.”
    Hippocracy of the Alternative
    In these days when the Hippocratic oath is more than a little hypocritical, we need our alternative medical care more than ever before.
    In today’s world, those who have gone about getting their education in the prescribed manner have incurred so much debt, that entire professions worth of employees, be they physicians, pharmacists or licensed nurses and massage therapists; they are trained very well: You do what we say, or you loose your license. You must not use or do what you know is right, even though it is the compassionate thing to do, you will loose your way to earn money if you do it.
    It is a simple as that. It all boils down to the almighty dollar. Non-maleficence, first doing no harm; has gone the way of family doctor who performs house calls. First, they harm your wallet, which effects your general well-being; then what they do causes more harm than good. Thus, ensuring your return and another procedure and visit that they can bill you for. Upfront payment accepted only. Medical ethics?!
    When those with the initials after their names; when THOSE who have done the education the prescribed way, when THEY FAIL to act in a caring manner, when they FAIL to act with compassion and care CHOOSING the lure of Satan in the guise of the almighty dollar, those of us who DO CARE about our brother are forced to become “front line medics” using the tools that GOD Himself gave us to treat and attempt to cure what ails each other.
    The next line of treatment, in a “compassionate state” is to go to the alternative care providers. Those with no medical degrees, relying on self-directed studies of the studies performed by distant scientists as well as anecdotal evidence of friends.
    But what do we get, when we place our trust and health care needs in the hands of people we will actually call “family,” a “canna-family;” solely because they partake of the same alternative treatment that we have chosen?
    Under RCW 69.51a, the medical cannabis in Washington is governed. A new set of rules and laws were added when Washington State voters approved I-502 against the objections of many medical cannabis patients.
    The fight for and against I-502 split the cannabis community in more than two pieces. A community that refers to itself as a family; now cannibalizing each other for the cash that they can procure.
    After traveling the country for the past 3 years, meeting a lot of people in a lot of different circumstances, most of them revolving around a plant, I decided to take up an invitation to “volunteer” at a local “collective garden” in Washington State for a few months. What I observed while there made me sicker than even “big pharma” has for a long time.
    I will be posting stories from the Collective Garden I was volunteering at. It is and was the norm. I had the opportunity, while there and at other times, to interview and get to know as true friends, a large variety of people, all patients, who have volunteered in these “Gardens”. Their, and my experience is typical of what a small town “Safe Access Point” is in Washington State.
    I believe in a better paradigm. I aim to create a situation for myself, my husband and as many of our friends as possible in a community that is about caring. Cannabis is a part of it, but currency will not be.
    My heart has been hurt tremendously by the people who call patients “family” only to be close to them when they receive their pittance of a decreasing valued limited income. It is time for all to grow their own. It is time for people to step up and help their neighbor if he CAN’T grow. It is time to be our brother’s keeper. It is TIME to Overgrow the World with compassion. With the love and lighte of Christ. And with Cannabis.
    Sometime in January 2014, a parcel arrived at my post office box unsolicited. I noticed the return address was from Green Candy Press, a cannabis publishing firm for whom I have done some book review work in the past. I opened the parcel and was both excited and disappointed to find a cannabis cookbook inside. At the time, I was living with family members who forbid any extractions while I was staying under their roof. About a month later, I was able to move to a more cannabis friendly environment. At that time, I made the following post on facebook.
    “Baked Italian: Over 50 mediterranean marijuana meals” by: Yzabetta Sativa
    ISBN: 978-1-937866-18-1
    Published by: Green Candy Press www.greencandypress.com
    Photos by: Brody Bruce
    Today I’m taking a look at their methods for extractions, particularly their olive oil extraction method. (Feb 24, 2014)
    purchase your copy: http://www.amazon.com/Baked-Italian-Mediterranean-Marijuana-Meals/dp/1937866181/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394906428&sr=8-1&keywords=Baked+italian — with Yzabetta Sativa
    I am so disappointed that I have to give another poor review… 3 of 10 possible medicinal leaves. However, when both publisher and author do not think that the temperature you cook your cannabis is important, well, you just cant get a good review that way. I’d really like this book if Yzabetta Sativaof Green Candy Press would update it to include a portion on Decarboxylation and appropriate temperature and cooking information in the book that has been overlooked in this edition of Baked: Over 50 Tasty Marijuana Treats. I’m honestly in search of a traditional Italian cookbook to fill in some of the gaps in the recipies as far as cooking the meat. The photos in the book are beautifully shot. I have no real complaints with the book up to page 38. Where temperatures are listed, they are often too high (meaning much of your high would be cooked off in the oven) other places there is no mention of heat even where raw meat is concerned (beginning page 47). I would love to give this book a glowing review if these issues were addressed.
    For example, the recipe on Page 47 is for Beef Carpaccio. Below follows a photo of the method.
    ANYONE ELSE SEE A HUGE GAP IN THE METHOD ABOVE?
    The last time I reviewed this publisher, they did not get a stellar review either:
    How to make Cannabis Cure Oil without alerting the neighbors
    The purpose of this blogpost to assist folks in making smaller batches of cannabis cure oil (aka phoenix tears) specifically written for those in situations requiring caution and little smell, whatever those conditions may be (i.e. cancer pts in non legal states). MAKING CANNABIS CURE OIL IS EASIER THAN FOLKS THINK!!! If you wish make a small batch of cannabis cure oil aka phoenix tears on the down low or are worried about the neighbors smelling what you’re cooking, then this guide is for you.  This method works with just a little bit of raw materials to process.  I usually reclaim the alcohol solvent, but for the purposes of this post, i’m going ultra low tech and easy for people who wont take the time to run a still because they are complete novices in need of oil…
    if you are worried about the legality of this oil, I say to you
    “When a life is at stake, and breaking a law will save it, abiding by the law is not a virtue.” ~Breezy Kiefair
    or perhaps Henry David Thoreau said it better in his work Civil Disobedience”
    If the machine of government is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law.
    What Are Phoenix Tears?
    Quite simply, Phoenix Tears are a potent, concentrated form of the cannabis plant.  This therapy is also known as R.S.O (Rick Simpson Oil), Cannabis Cure Oil, Run From the Cure Oil, F.E.C.O (Fully Extracted Cannabis Oil), Jamaican Hash Oil (like you used to get “back in the day”) Cannabis extract, or simply hash oil. Whatever you call it, it is strong medicine that cures most cancers and can treat many disorders/diseases in the body.
    I invite you to also follow the below link for more frequently asked questions on how to use this medication.
    What kind of cannabis
    do I use?
    Some of you out there are so new to cannabis that knowing what kind of cannabis to get is a difficult proposition. For others, this is basic information that I am reviewing for you.
    Cannabis is divided into two general families. They are referred to as Indicas and Sativas (there are hybrids that are described as a percentage Indica and a percentage sativa)
    2013-05-23 0657 indicasativa leaves collage polished
    Some of the most commonly recommended strains by the Rick Simpson Camp of oil creation are white widow and white rhino. Both of these strains are good Indica strains but there are many, many other Indica strains. Indica plants have fat leaves and generally are more earthy in their flavor and smell.
    You need a strain high in both THC and CBD. I am of the opinion that all of the compounds of the plant work in concert together to heal cancer. Some people will argue with me that chlorophyll is not necessary, but truly that is a small matter.
    Indica strains tend to be sleepier and are better in my opinion for nighttime, however for me, Indica plants are also more effective for deep pain.
    Indica medical marijuana strains are short, bushy plants with wide leaves. Indica plants typically grow faster and have a higher yield than the sativa variety. Medicine produced from cannabis indica plants have higher CBD and lower THCcounts therefore a pure indica strain will produce a heavier, sleepy type of high. The flowering stage lasts between 6 to 8 weeks.Plant Origins: Afghanistan, Morocco, and Tibet.
    Sativa strains are more for daytime. The feeling is more social, more antidepressant, creative, more energetic, and clearer headed. Sativas are also good as a “ distraction” from the pain, they will help you get interested in whatever it is you are doing to help you not notice how much pain you are in.
    The sativa strain of marijuana is the complete opposite of the indica strain. Sativa medical marijuana pants are tall, thin plants, with narrow leaves, and generally are a lighter shade of green then their counterpart, the Indica strain. Sativa strains take longer to grow, mature, and require more light. Medicine produced from cannabis sativa plants have lower CBD and higher THC counts which produces a more clear headed, energetic type of high. The flowering stage lasts between 10 to 16 weeks. Plant Origins: Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia.
    remember that cannabis flowers are like roses... roses come in many colors and the right color given to the right person can open many doors... cannabis flowers come with many different effects and the right flower given to the right person with the right illness that flower is good at treating can ease much suffering. —                                                                     https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=530336420319705&set=o.154533251224064&type=3&src=https%3A%2F%2Ffbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net%2Fhphotos-ak-prn1%2F525999_530336420319705_1779578205_n.jpg&size=480%2C384
    I recommend a Cannabis Indica strain or a cannabis Indica dominant hybrid strain for the curing of cancer. If you are treating another disease, you may want to try different strains of cannabis that are more suited for your condition  For example, someone wanting to treat their Post Traumatic Stress Disorder might choose to make their Cannabis Cure Oil from a strain known to be a good treatment for P.T.S.D anxiety symptoms such as Northern Lights. An epileptic or seizure patient may want to make their oil out of strains known to reduce seizure activity such as White Widow, White Rhino, or Life Saver. A chronic fatigue patient may want a sativa based oil for the energetic properties of some of those strains. Likewise, a patient with depression may wish to choose an uplifting euphoric  sativa strain to use as an antidepressant. Cannabis Indica strains tend to be high in both  Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and  Cannabidiol (CBD)
    There is nothing wrong with using a mixture of bud and close trim to make phoenix tears oil. I have even known people who used street grade weed (commonly referred to as shwag) to make the oil and saw results. Too often shwag is grown by non-organic methods and harvested before the nutrients have been flushed out of the plant properly. Sometimes, the plant is even harvested before she is completely ripe.  That being said, you cannot argue with the results of people who used shwag because that was all they had access to and were able to cure their cancer with it.  Because of all these concerns, I recommend everyone grow their own bud, or buy the raw materials from a trusted grower.
    What you will need:
    a quantity of Indica cannabis flowers or cannabis trim
    you can make batches with as little and 1/8 ounce of raw materials, though the yield is very small.
    a bag made from a scrap of a clean old t-shirt or some cheese cloth
    a 1qt mason jar to soak it in
    food grade high proof alcohol (ever-clear works well) Please make sure your alcohol is 190 proof or higher! the higher the proof the lower the water content.
    Unbleached cone shaped coffee filters
    a funnel
    an oven and oven thermometer to decarboxylate the cannabis
    a plant oil such as coconut oil, olive oil, butter, grapeseed oil, hempseed oil in order to help you get the cannabis oil back out of the jar.
    What YOU DO
    Step 1 Grind it:
    2014-03-09 22.23.50
    Cut or grind your cannabis into small, loose pieces. This increases the surface area for the solvent and maximizes the amount of medication extracted. This step is particularly important if your raw materials have been compressed in any way.
    Step 2 Bake it (decarboxylation):
    Place your raw materials in a bag made from t-shirt (jersey) material. preheat your oven to 290 degrees fahrenheit (143.3 degrees celsius) Place your bag of raw materials into a glass dish and put into the oven. Heat for at least 20 minutes and up to 60 minutes. AN OVEN THERMOMETER MAY BE NECESSARY! DO NOT EXCEED THIS LEVEL OF HEAT, or you begin to LOSE YOUR MEDICINE.
    2014-03-09 22.23.31
    Step 3 SOAK IT:
    Freeze your raw materials for a minimum of 2 hours.  Also freeze the alcohol solvent (no it will not become solid and if there is any water in your alcohol, it will freeze to the sides of your container) Put your bag of frozen raw materials into a container to soak. cover with the alcohol you have selected and allow to soak with a lid on it for 2-24 hours. Many different oil makers use different soak times. Some measure their soak time in minutes, some in hours, others in days or weeks. My teacher and I have played with many soak times and have settled upon the 2-24 hour range as ideal for our patients. For small scale extracts, I like 24 hours to maximize the yield.
    the soak, after overnight in the freezer
    Step 4 Filter it:
    Remove the raw material bag being sure you squeeze as much of the alcohol out as possible. Place the bag in a funnel or strainer and allow the alcohol to drain from the bag thoroughly. Collect all the alcohol!  Set up a funnel on top of another container and place a cone shaped coffee filter inside the funnel. Carefully pour the alcohol through the filter and funnel. This removes some of the plant cellulose so that you get a better consistency (less hard) oil in the end process.
    Step 5 Evaporate the alcohol:
    Leave the filtered alcohol uncovered in a warm cupboard or cabinet. Putting it someplace closed up helps keep the smell away from the neighbors. It may evaporate faster in the open. You want to leave it someplace warm that it is not going to get bumped, spilled or moved. This step can take several days, so be patient. You are left with a thick dark grease like substance in the bottom of the jar. You can access this cannabis cure oil (phoenix tears) in the next step, so dont be worried that you can’t get at the product. If you need ultra concentrated phoenix tears, use a wide mouth flat dish for the evaporation step. you can use a razor blade to scrape the oil off the glass and or a syringe to collect it depending on yield and consistency.
    Step 6: time for fats
    Add a quantity of coconut oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, or butter to the jar. Gently heat the jar until the oil is melted and marries with the cannabis oil. Lots of stirring in this step!  The less fat you put in the jar, the more potent the end result is… this is the step where you decide your dose. It is easier to add more oil and make it less potent than to add too much oil. If you add too much fat, the only thing you can do to increase the potency is make another batch of oil and add it to the cannabis infused oil you already have. The end result can be used in a variety of cooking methods or if you prefer can be put into vegetable capsules (works best with coconut oil) for use as pills or suppositories. I really like a blend I make with the cannabis plus equal parts coconut oil and honey. For more information and discussion on the method, please click this sentence
    Step 7 Store it:
    if you have access to empty oral syringes, then draw up the phoenix tears into syringes
    If you do not have access to oral syringes, consider making up pills from empty vegetable capsules
    If neither of the above are an option, a wide mouth glass container is suitable
    DO NOT STORE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. No need to refrigerate, if you do they may become too thick to work with.
    end-notes:
    I am not afraid to tell you that I agonized about writing this tutorial. The responsibility of writing this oil creation tutorial weighed  heavy on my mind. I know I need to make the instructions pretty much fool proof. even if i write this flawlessly… with ample warnings and clear language…. what responsibility do i hold karmic or otherwise if someone extracts poorly after reading my tutorial? what level of fool is acceptable for making the oil? How many fools will ignore safety precautions, allow alcohol to build up in the extraction area and become alcohol vapor poisoned or worse will light a joint and go boom for lack of airflow? My teacher is a good oil maker and had to learn his lesson on alcohol vapor poison the hard way… how can I ensure the knowledge I am imparting will not have dangerous consequences if they fall into a fools hands? I have weighed all these concerns in my heart and decided that it was too important of information to with hold it for fear of what people will do with it. In the end, the fear of what people would do with out it is greater than the fear of what they will do with it.
